SQMC Health and Safety Policy

Written by Communications | Mar 11, 2025 12:38:53 PM

We take health and safety seriously. While our work is low-risk, we are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our staff, tutors, students, and consultants. We also align with Fife College’s Health & Safety provisions, as we operate within their premises.

Our Commitments to Occupational H&S:

  1. Safe Working Conditions – We ensure that our office space remains a safe and comfortable working environment. As tenants of Fife College, we adhere to their health and safety policies and benefit from their fire safety measures, facility maintenance, and risk management.

  2. Wellbeing and Mental Health – We recognise that health and safety go beyond physical risks. We are committed to promoting wellbeing by supporting ergonomic comfort, minimising workplace stress, and creating a positive working and learning environment.

  3. Student Wellbeing – We prioritise the wellbeing and comfort of our students by ensuring regular breaks, opportunities to move around, and appropriate screen time management during online training.

  4. Consultants and On-Site Safety – Some of our staff and consultants work in higher-risk environments. SQMC and our subcontractors are fully insured, and we make available necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety footwear, high-visibility vests, and head protection as required to meet site safety regulations.

  5. Expertise and Integrity – While we do not provide formal health and safety training to our internal staff or subcontractors, we work closely with external tutors who are experts in ISO 45001, NEBOSH, and IOSH discipliness. We ensure that our operations reflect the principles we teach.

  6. Consultation and Participation – We value the views of our staff, consultants, and students in shaping our approach to health and safety. We encourage open dialogue, especially in the design and delivery of our courses, to ensure that wellbeing and safety remain a priority for everyone involved.

  7. Compliance and Continuous Improvement – We remain open to feedback on health and safety matters and will act on any reasonable concerns raised. We comply with relevant H&S requirements applicable to our operations and regularly review our policies to ensure they remain effective and practical.

Responsibilities:

  • Management – Ensures that SQMC aligns with best practices in workplace safety and student wellbeing while adhering to Fife College’s H&S policies.

  • Employees & Tutors – Expected to work safely, raise any concerns about health and safety, and support a positive learning environment.

  • Consultants – Must comply with site-specific safety requirements and use the necessary protective equipment provided.

  • Students & Visitors – Encouraged to take necessary precautions for their wellbeing and respect the learning environment provided.

Commitment to Ongoing Improvement:

We review our approach to health and safety regularly, making adjustments where needed to maintain a responsible and practical policy.

For any health and safety concerns, please speak to SQMC management or refer to Fife College’s H&S representatives.
